Autobiography
My name is Amanda Felts; I am from the town of Catawba. I am very family oriented and spend a majority of my free time with my family or my boyfriend’s family. In my family the person I really look up to is my Paw Paw Porky, he has really been there to push me through school, I go to the beach a lot with him. We talk a lot about life and what all he did as a boy and it is a truly cherish the time I spend with him. My boyfriends name is Dillon, we have been dating for seven years, he is a mechanic and love Volkswagens and that has kind of rubbed off on me. I collect lighthouses and I enjoy gong to the beach. I have a Standard Poodle named Bunny-Rabbit; she is also a very smart for she tells me yes and no.
I am currently a teacher assistant at a charter school in Statesville. I am want to teach Science once I graduate. I believe that Science is very important to everyone’s life, because we all want to know the weather, know why our bodies do the things they do, figure out how to stop erosion and many other things. Science helps student evaluate the world around them.

Amanda,
Sounds like your Paw Paw is very important to you. I can relate…my Paw Paw lives with me. I love the beach too. I can’t wait to get my toes in the sand this summer. Science was one of my favorite subjects in school. You can do alot with it and make it really interesting and fun. I look forward to meeting you tonight.

Great dog name! Your poodle and my chocolate Lab would like playing together…she weighs 80lbs, and is still growing.
Good luck with the summer workload.

Hello. I think science is cool. Understanding the scientific world helps me to realize that the world is far too complicated to have happened by chance.

Amanda,
That is amazing that you and Dillon have been together so long! I love Volkswagens also…I had a Cabrio before I had Cody and I decided that a convertible was not the best thing to be transporting my child around in. But I loved it so much and I am determined to get another one one day! I would love to see your dog…Cody loves dogs and I have heard you talk about Bunny-Rabbit before and I know Cody would her!

It is nice to hear you are so close to your paw paw. He sounds like a really big impact in your life. I am jealous you are going to the beach though. You will make a great science teacher. Good luck!

Amanda,
It is nice to meet you and to learn of your love for science. I firmly believe that science is the gift of God. From science we enjoy our modern standard of living. Anyone who has had a child in a hospital should be grateful for modern medicine. Engineering is the practical and useful application of science. Our nation needs more scientist.
Good luck,

Hi Amanda,
Hearing about your Paw Paw Porky made me think of my Grandpa Casper. He wasn’t a man of words like your Paw Paw, but he was always around to encourage us through his actions.

Amanda, what do you call your grandmother? How did Paw Paw Porky get his name? I have a few dogs myself.

I think being a science teacher is probably the coolest area because you can do so many hands-on lessons, experiments, etc. When I was little I wanted to be an archaeologist. Also, North Carolina has so many interesting geological and research sites. Kids seem to respond well to science because it is so interesting. Good choice! Roberta Wilson

Collecting lighthouses sounds very interesting. How many light houses have you visited? I tried seeing the NC light houses once but I was unable to find a few. Rather they were on Islands like Bald Head Island near Southport. When I was a kid at some point I lived on Oak Island and could see the light house from a distance but it’s a private island.

Sounds like you love your family and cherish the time spent with them. Many people don’t realize that until it’s too late. Good luck teaching science. I’ll have to visit your classroom because science was so not fun for me in school.

Thanks Amanda,
Cherish the time you have with those close to you. How do you collect a lighthouse? Sounds interesting. Science…make sure you thoroughly check out the SAS materials for science. I hope you find interesting and useful materials for your teaching.
Good luck.
